31 Days of Issues {Day 4}: Identify It

Ok, I promise to get a little more creative with these titles.  This series is starting to sound like "bop it".  And while that game did make 15 hour church van rides to summer camp more enjoyable, maybe I should give it a rest on these post titles.  Moving on ...

So, the issues.  Those six issues this book touches on.  They have my name on them.  All of them.  But truthfully, some a little more than others.  Or at least it seems so at this point.

However, I really didn't want to go into this book with that attitude.  Like, oh well I only really struggle with "x" so I don't really have to pay attention to the chapters on issues y and z.

No, no, and no.  Humility first.  And so one morning I decided to ask the Lord to strip my soul bare and reveal to me my struggles in each of the six areas (control, insecurity, fear, comparison, anger, and unforgiveness).  And you know what?

He did.

There were a lot more tears in those 20 minutes than I anticipated.  I basically listed these issues in my journal and then wrote down whatever the Lord showed me about that issue.  Sort of a fill-in-the blank exercise, but so much more.

I am fearful of _______ .
I am insecure about _______ .
I struggle with comparison regarding _____ .
I struggle with lack of or too much control over ______ .
I struggle with anger/unforgiveness toward ______ .

It was a great journaling exercise for me.  I really encourage you to give it a try.  And don't stop at one blank.  If you have more, list them!  Honesty is the best policy here.  The Lord knows your heart anyway, you might as well be honest with yourself before Him.

The Lord left a Bible verse in my heart after that little introspective session.  One of my very favorites.

The Lord didn't come so we could live in bondage to any of those six issues.  He wants us to overcome them and live a full life for His glory.

Dear Jesus please reveal to us how these six specific issues hold our hearts in bondage.  And help us work through them.  And please make us whole.  Please be our Jehovah Rapha.  Amen.
