A Week (or so) of Small Space Living: Master Bedroom

Well, I wanted to start the week of small space living off in the living room buuuttt ... my room was the only one clean and picture-worthy yesterday (#reallifeconfessions).  So, instead of focusing on the living room, I'd like to show you my room.

Truthfully, I think our room is a very comfortable size.  Our furniture fits nicely and nothing looks too crowded.  But, just like most other rooms in our house, space is a commodity - we have room for what we have, but not much room for excess.  For my clothes, I really do have a "one in, one out" rule.  If I buy something new I scour my closet and drawers to find something to give away.  Not because I'm so awesome and charitable, but I really, really don't have enough space to build a giant wardrobe.  This rule really keeps me in check - I don't buy new things very often because then I would have to give something away.  For the most part, when I do buy something new, I am trying to replace something I already have.  It's a great system that works for me and for my closet space.

Something that really, really helps keep our clothes neat and tidy with the room we have is careful attention to folding.  You will be amazed how much more you can fit into a drawer when things are folded well.  I learned this trick here.  Give it a try ... I think you'll be
pleasantly surprised!

Here's a little peek into our closet.  I think it's also worth noting that we have more in our closet than clothes - I have all my craft supplies, as well as some home decor items and some other randomness.  And the closet goes a little farther on each side, it was just hard to photograph.

I think the most important point this week is that we have exactly enough room for what we need - no more, no less.  It might be challenging, especially in today's society where the theme is "more".  But the theme in our little house is "enough".  And that's exactly how much room we have.

  1. Do you have any storage under your bed? I put my out of season clothing under my bed. I tried to get rid of it all once, so I could have a super clean feel, but I discovered that it just works for me. You have inspired me to get moving with my clean out process!!! Your bedroom looks wonderful!

    1. Thank you! Some storage under the bed - games, travel bags, wrapping paper, extra blankets - no clothes though. I just keep it all out all year.

  2. under the bed storage bins(they roll under) are amazing! If they dont' quite fit, you can get these little risers to raise your bed frame a smidge (still hidden under bedskirt). I like your bedroom Sarah, the furniture fits well, and it's a good size, really! For a house in the town in which you live.,.that is a really really big closet. Just sayin'. Even though my rental homes are larger, either of them have a closet anywhere near that size! Totally wish they did...

  4. Cute room!! Amen on the "enough." We are all so blessed with stuff. Simplify was my theme for 2013, but I cannot let it go. Must clean out more. :) Less really is more. Thanks for sharing:)

    1. Thank you! I feel like I can't take credit for the organization ... it's more out of necessity than a talent for organizing. But either way, it works!
