A Battle Unseen

Ephesians 6:10-17 - Put on the full armor of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil's schemes ... for we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against principalities, and powers, and the rulers of darkness ... stand firm with the belt of truth and ... take the sword of the spirit, which is the Word of God.

The enemy hisses:

He took her because you wouldn't have been a good mother to her.  Some days you struggle to keep up with Micah - what makes you think you could have handled two?

The Lord whispers kindly:

Evie's brief life has brought me so much glory.  She had to leave for grand, eternal, cosmic reasons that your finite mind won't understand until one gloriously enlightening day.  It had nothing to do with your skills as a mother.  I don't "punish" my children for human inadequacies, because My strength is made perfect in their weakness.

He'll do this again you know.  Hurt you, take things from you.

Job 2:10 - Shall we only accept good from God and not adversity?
Job 1:20 - The Lord gives and the Lord takes away; blessed be His name.
Psalm 34:18 - The Lord is near the brokenhearted and saves those with a contrite spirit.

You're so different now.  People don't like being around you as much as they used to - you make them feel awkward.

Sarah, I allowed this into your life for a reason - I know it will make you into the vessel I want you to be.  Allow losing Evie to refine you and not define you and everything will be ok.

What if He doesn't give you other children?  That would be terrible, you know.

I know the plans I have for you, plans for good and not for evil, to give you a future and a hope. Jeremiah 29:11

Deliver my life from the wicked ... from the men whose portion is in this life ... they are satisfied with children ... as for me, I will see your face in righteousness; I shall be satisfied when I awake in Your likeness.  Psalm 17:13-15

Therefore, do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about its own things; sufficient for the day is its own trouble.  Matthew 6:34

Heaven is so far away.  You're clinging to hope that's so distant.  Where is the comfort in that?

Blessed is the man who endures trials; for when he has been approved, he will receive the crown of life which the Lord has promised to those who love Him.  James 1:12

For our light affliction, which is but for a moment, if working for us a far more exceeding and eternal weight of glory.  2 Corinthians 4:17

I would have lost heart if I had not believed I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living.  Psalm 27:13

You're a good person.  He gives bad mothers, abusive mothers, neglectful mothers armfuls of children.  Where is the justice?

But we are all like an unclean thing, all our righteousnesses are like filthy rags.  Isaiah 64:6

For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God.  Romans 3:23

But God demonstrates His love toward us in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.  Romans 5:8

Do you still believe in the power of prayer?  Do you remember what God did with your requests for a healthy baby?

I make all things work together for the good of My kingdom.  I may have said no to a life on earth with Evie, but I will say yes to something better than you can even imagine.  You'll see ...

1 John 1:5 - God is light and in Him is no darkness at all.

Romans 8:1 - There is therefore now no condemnation to those who are in Christ Jesus, who do not walk according to the flesh, but according to the spirit.

2 Corinthians 3:17 - Where the spirit of the Lord is, there is liberty ... enlightenment ... deliverance ... privilege ...

Freedom.

  1. wow. those exact questions go through my head on a daily basis. except I never have all the scriptures to answer back. I am always afraid that if I go seeking the scriptures to find comfort, that I will lose some sort of "gross right" to be angry that my children aren't here anymore, and others are. but there is comfort in God's word, and I thank you for sharing, because I needed that this morning, more than you could know.

  2. This is excellent- It's so good to have specific scriptures to combat the lies we are told and think to ourselves.

  3. This is SO good - and we all struggle with lies that Satan tells us about ourselves. What a powerful weapon you have given other people, especially in answering these specific questions! I love this!!

  4. This is great Sarah! So many of these I have wrestled with myself and God's Word is the only way to defeat the lies. I especially like what you said about allowing lose to refine not define... so true.

    2. I know, I love that too ... I heard it from Lisa Terkeurst (Proverbs 31 ministries). I can't take the credit.

  8. Very good post, Sarah. Very deep and very "prophetic" in the sense of really seeing. "How hast thou plentifully declared the thing as it is?" Job 26:3
