family fridays

Behind on the post again, but here is what we Riekes have been up to this week:

Josh:  Poor guy has a lot on his plate.  To say he is busy is quite an understatement.  Twice a week he preps for clinicals (his day in the operating room, OR) from 7 pm to 1-sh am, only to wake up at 4:30 to be in the hospital by 5:30 for a full 8-10 hour day.  The other days he is in class basically all day (9-4 ish) and then comes home to study and do his other assignments.  He is still doing really well, but feels pressed for time most days.  Things should ease up by the end of the summer semester once his three classes are over.

Micah: Couldn't be any cuter/sweeter/more hilarious if he tried.  He has started mimicking several little expressions and now says, "oh ma(n)!", "oh dear", and "oh my".  We play outside so much these days, now that the weather is warm.  Here are some pics of him enjoying a fudgesicle outside this week.  Nothing says summer like melty popsicles, messy sweaty sun-tan-lotioned hair, and no shirt.

Me/Baby #2: We had our sixteen week appointment this past Thursday and all is well.  I have definitely started feeling little pokes from our baby's soft kicks, which is really exciting.  I am proud to say I have only gained 8 pounds so far, which is about half of what I'd gained with Micah at this point.  I hope to stay on a good steady weight gaining streak and not blow up like a balloon like I did my first pregnancy, but we'll see.  And the MOST exciting news ... we will find out the gender of our baby in only four weeks!  I can't wait.

If you ask me, I think it's a boy.  This pregnancy has felt pretty much the same as last time.  According to two wives' tales gender prediction tests, this baby is a boy.  And a DIY gender predictor test yielded the same results (there are no pics of this because, quite frankly, I didn't think anyone would want to see documentation of my urine mixed with cabbage water.  You're welcome).  And if it's a boy, I am really excited to have two handsome little men and I hope they will be best buds.

The only potentially major difference and the only reason why I wonder if I am carrying a girl baby this time is that with Micah, I was crazy obsessed with chocolate and ice cream and all things sugary.  This time around, for the first time in my life (seriously), I am passing up dessert and the idea of eating most chocolates is fairly unappetizing.  Strange.  Does this aversion add up to a different gender?  Not sure.  But to be completely honest, I will be truly thrilled either way.

Thanks for checking up on us ... hope you have a great weekend!

  1. So cute, Sarah! I can't wait to hear what you're having. This pregnancy for me has been way different from the start, so I was predicting boy as well.

    Glad all is well!
