as seen on pinterest (asop)

A few months ago I pinned this list of things to do with 1-3 year olds.  One of them really caught my eye: paint with water.  I stored it away in my memory bank to use one day in the warmer spring/summer months.  Today I tried it.

I was working in the backyard for about 45 minutes relocating some landscaping bricks because a colony of ants decided to set up shop in there.  The brick pile was really near our back door and, wouldn't you know it, those little guys kept finding their way inside.  But anyway ...

Micah was playing outside pretty well until the last little while.  It was pretty hot and close to nap time and he was tired of me not giving him my undivided attention.  In order to finish up the last bit of my agenda, I ran in the house to get the "paint with water" supplies.  They were: a mixing bowl filled with water and a pastry brush.  I ran back outside to show my tiny man his new treasure.

The result:

He was actually pretty excited about it.  He looked at me really tentatively when he started painting the house, wondering if he was actually allowed haha.  But he had a good time.

You may be wondering how long this actually kept my busy little bee occupied.  The blogger who posted this list claims her son was content with this activity for over an hour.  Mine lasted ... about five minutes.  I think the trouble was that I started sweeping up the remainder of my mess, and since he thinks brooms are one of the most amazing things ever, he lost interest in the water painting much earlier than anticipated.  Oh well.

But I will certainly try again.  And I would recommend this activity to other moms.  It's fun and there is no mess involved.  Yay!

  1. cute!!! Mareto thinks brooms are the most amazing thing ever too! So funny! We've actually talked about getting him a little broom as a gift/toy. haha Maybe they'll be good at helping with the chores. (we can hope so anyway!) ;)
